Glen Frey performing at the opening celebrations of Expo '88 in Brisbane. The Eagles, and now famous in his own right as a solo performer and part-time actor, will be adding yet another string to his guitar on Saturday night.
As part of the opening celebrations of World Expo '88 in Brisbane he will perform with one of The Eagles' contemporaries from the '70s, The Little River Band.
This will be the first major outing into the public eye for LRB since Glenn Shorrock resumed his place as lead singer last month.
Frey said in a phone interview this week that playing with LRB would be like taking a step back in time.
"It'll be like playing with the Eagles without playing with the Eagles if you know what I mean," he said.
"I got a cable from LRB's management about six weeks ago and it sounded like a lot of fun. I've known the guys for quite a while now, from their early days when I got together with them and had a few beers, and then later on when they performed with us at a few outdoor venues around '77, '78.
"They're not much different from the Eagles really - you know they're basically a guitar/voice band, and we'll be playing a few of the Eagles' old tunes together so it should be a hell of a lot of fun."
Frey has just completed his third solo album, Soul Searching, which he describes as being "further advances in my love of soul music".
"It's got a bit of Motown in it and I'm real excited by it because I was co-producer this time around and we got a lot of exciting sounds together, so I think it's my best solo album yet."
When Frey returns to the US he will work on the final mix of the album and do some concerts and promotional work.
"I'm really looking forward to that because I've been out of the concert scene for a while now, doing movie work and stuff while I've written this album," he said.
"I really enjoyed my work with Beverly Hills Cop (The Heat Is On) and a part in Miami Vice but I'm not seriously pursuing acting as a career. I mean that is such a serious business and it can be so damn tedious sitting around while they move a light a fraction of a inch and stuff like that.
"I'm much happier concentrating on my music and just being a musician."
Frey says he will probably be back in Australia at the end of the year for a series of concerts featuring work from his new album.
